GPU Instanced Grass Breakdown (Cyanilux)
Cyanilux
Visit resource ↗Description
GPU Instanced Grass Breakdown is a free Cyanilux tutorial (October 2025) on URP grass via Graphics.RenderMeshPrimitives or RenderMeshIndirect, drawing instanced quads without a GameObject per blade.
Covers SV_InstanceID structured buffers in Shader Graph, a DrawGrass C# script with alpha-clipped quads, and optional terrain masking, wind sway, chunked spawning, and compute frustum culling for indirect draws. Requires compute buffer support.
For intermediate Unity users with URP, Shader Graph, and C# rendering scripts. The intro contrasts SRP Batcher batching with GPU instancing for dense foliage.
Version tabs and stacked sections let you stop after basic setup or extend to GPU-driven instance counts. Free on cyanilux.com with annotated graphs and code snippets.
Useful for dense grass in one draw call. Cyanilux breakdowns are widely linked in Unity shader communities.
