Blending Meshes into Terrain (Inresin)
Inresin
Visit resource ↗Description
Louis Waloschek's April 2020 Inresin tutorial blends static meshes into Unity Terrain using baked depth masks and Amplify surface shaders. Sections cover render-texture theory, TerrainBlendingBaker C#, and the blending graph.
An orthographic Terrain-layer camera renders a replacement depth shader into TB_DEPTH; mesh shaders rebuild world UVs, offset Y for contact, and lerp textures with falloff and noise. Extensions bake normals or multi-colour splats at lower resolution.
Two paths support one high-res blend map or many low-res layers; normals stay limited for realistic lighting. Universal RP lacks replacement shaders, so Built-in RP and Amplify are assumed.
Advanced artists with C# and shader-editor skills can use free starter-kit assets; full scenes were Patreon-only at launch. Niche reference for stylised outdoor mesh - terrain transitions.
