Half-Edge Data Structure. Part 2

Visit resource ↗Description
Half-Edge Data Structure. Part 2 is Alex Syniakov's July 2026 follow-up dissecting OpenMesh add_face when attaching a triangle along an existing mesh boundary.
Worked examples show boundary-loop breakage, the fix_next rotation that finds the next free outgoing halfedge, OpenMesh splice shortcuts via next_cache_, relink-patches for non-adjacent reused edges, and adjust_outgoing_halfedge for vertex entry points.
Advanced C++ programmers implementing or debugging manifold mesh libraries will benefit from the topology-first diagrams. Part 1 covered traversal basics.
The article is a free post on Syniakov's blog. Detailed half-edge insertion writeups are rare and this OpenMesh series is cited positively when debugging topology bugs.
