Description

Real-time Rendering with a Neural Irradiance Volume presents NIV, a compact neural bake of diffuse indirect lighting for real-time shading of static scenes and novel dynamic objects. EUROGRAPHICS / CGF paper by Arno Coomans, Giacomo Nazzaro, Edoardo A. Dominici, Christian Doring, Floor Verhoeven, Konstantinos Vardis, and Markus Steinberger.

It replaces aliasing-prone probe grids with a coordinate MLP and multi-level hash encoding from position and direction to irradiance. Traits include heuristic-free baking, about 1 ms full-HD inference, 1-5 MB models, G-buffer-only runtime without ray tracing or denoising, and optional time-varying fields.

For advanced real-time researchers and engine developers who know GI caches and neural representations. Precomputation and G-buffer experience is expected.

The arXiv abs page gives the abstract, authors, and free PDF access without an account.

Useful for probe-like dynamic-object immersion with better quality per megabyte than dense grids. Link last verified accessible on 2026-09-27. Link last verified accessible on 2026-09-28.
