Description

NVIDIA Nsight Systems is NVIDIA's system-wide profiler correlating CPU threads, OS scheduling, and GPU work on Windows and Linux. The developer.nvidia.com page positions it as the first tool when spikes may come from either processor or the graphics queue.

Timelines show graphics and compute API activity, CUDA, memcpy, and synchronization, with plugins, Python markers, and multi-node support for large captures. It complements frame debuggers by showing whole-system scheduling rather than one frame's pipeline state.

Targets include RTX workstations, data center GPUs, Jetson, and DRIVE SoCs when porting PC renderers to embedded NVIDIA hardware. Install via NVIDIA SDK packages aligned to driver generations.

Instrument hot paths with NVTX or API markers before capturing; the tool rewards labeled regions when hunting stutter or idle gaps.

Widely regarded in the graphics programming community as a standard NVIDIA utility for CPU-GPU timeline analysis.
