Fog Plane Shader Breakdown (Cyanilux)
Cyanilux
Visit resource ↗Description
Fog Plane Shader Breakdown is Cyanilux's free Unity URP Shader Graph tutorial on unlit transparent fog quads. Alpha comes from comparing Scene Depth against each fragment on a flat plane.
Example 1 (Simple) subtracts Eye-mode scene depth from view-space plane depth; Example 2 (Accurate) rebuilds world positions with View Vector and dots against the quad normal to avoid shallow-angle warping. The Notes section covers density tuning, color fade, saturate, and shadow casting.
Intermediate readers should know URP transparency and the Scene Depth node (linked Depth article). The trick targets third-person, top-down, or fixed cameras since passing through the plane breaks the effect.
Intro, Notes, and annotated Breakdown sections are free on cyanilux.com without login.
Handy for vertical fog or doorway fades without volumetrics; widely linked among Unity shader learners.
