Description

GSWT: Gaussian Splatting Wang Tiles presents a SIGGRAPH Asia 2025 method by Yunfan Zeng, Li Ma, and Pedro V. Sander for procedural large-scale 3DGS terrains by encoding local Gaussian fields as Wang tiles with boundary constraints.

It covers multi-LOD 3DGS exemplar reconstruction from multi-view images, tile sets via semantic-aware graph cuts on edge and center patches, pre-sorting for sort-free splatting, and runtime tiling on a worker thread while the main thread renders. The goal is continuous stochastic tiling over arbitrary surfaces with real-time terrain rendering.

It is for advanced researchers and engineers working on 3D Gaussian Splatting and procedural terrain. Wang tiles and splat rendering background helps.

The free project page includes abstract text, pipeline diagrams, and author affiliations. A full demo section is marked TBD at the time of reading.

It is useful when expanding a captured Gaussian terrain exemplar into large tiled surfaces without a monolithic 3DGS rebuild. Link last verified accessible on 2026-09-29. Link last verified accessible on 2026-09-28.
