Description

Eric Lengyel's comprehensive game-math textbook, now in its third edition from Cengage Learning. The companion site mathfor3dgameprogramming.com lists the full table of contents, downloadable code listings, and published errata.

Sixteen chapters cover the rendering pipeline, vectors and matrices, transforms and quaternions, 3D geometry, ray tracing intersections, lighting and shading (through Cook-Torrance and bump mapping), visibility with BSP trees and portals, polygon techniques, shadow mapping and stencil volumes, curves and surfaces, collision detection, and physics through fluids and cloth simulation.

Derivations are presented with attention to filling gaps rather than hand-waving results. The book assumes calculus and trigonometry with review appendices on complex numbers, trigonometric identities, and coordinate systems. Sample vector and matrix classes are provided on the website.

Print and eBook editions are sold through major retailers; the site remains the authoritative TOC reference. Lengyel also authored Foundations of Game Engine Development and created the C4/Terathon engine.

Widely regarded as a standard reference alongside Real-Time Rendering and Real-Time Collision Detection for gameplay and graphics math; frequently recommended for engine programmers who want textbook-depth coverage beyond tutorial summaries.
