Description

AMD GPU Debugger is a December 2025 technical blog post by Abdelhadi on building an AMD GPU debugger outside ROCm, inspired by Marcell Kiss and limited tools such as rocgdb.

It covers talking to the GPU via DRM and libdrm without Vulkan, buffer allocate and map paths, PM4 Type 3 packets, compute shader submission, TBA/TMA trap handlers, amdgpu debugfs register writes, SPIR-V via RADV debug paths, and a sketch of breakpoints, stepping, watchpoints, and Vulkan integration.

It is aimed at advanced systems programmers who know Linux GPU drivers, Mesa or RADV internals, and RDNA trap concepts. Incomplete experimental code is expected.

The post is free HTML with large C and assembly listings, footnotes, and a bonus gfx11 page-walk sketch.

It is useful as a concrete map of AMD trap-based debugging plumbing when vendor debuggers do not cover your path.
